Design Utilities
Please remember to give credit to the developers and authors. Utilities used to build and help maintain websites are linked here. These utilities, on websites all over the WWW, powered by little server- and client-side programs and applications, help with color, build banners and gifs, create tables and frames, and test HTML. Follow these links to a helpful little "machine" on the web to help you develop pieces and parts of your website.
In addition, there are a wide variety of programs available to help build websites. Some are TEXT-BASED (source-code based) and others are known as WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) where you create the page without having to write the HTML code. I write my own code in Allaire HomeSite & the universal coder's old standby, Notepad, and use HomeSite's tools to edit, test and validate my HTML.
I also use Macromedia's Dreamweaver WYSIWYG editor to create image maps and certain other web page interfaces.
To create graphics, I use Adobe Photo Shop and Jasc Paint Shop Pro; and Netscape Navigator & MS Internet Explorer as my browsers, and CuteFTP for file transfer. For email, I use Eudora Pro.
All of these programs are excellent, most are not expensive, some are free.

- Allaire HomeSite - Reasonably priced. My hands-down favorite pure HTML TEXT-BASED editor from the producers of the application server, Cold Fusion.
- Macromedia Dreamweaver - THE BEST WYSIWYG editor out there for developers who write pure code. It absolutely-no-matter-what does not re-write your code! It's a very useful tool. From the multi-media experts who developed Flash, Shockwave, Fireworks and more.
- PhotoShop Expensive! The "Mercedes Benz" of graphics software programs. No serious graphics developer should be without it.
- PaintShopPro - Very reasonably priced. Great little graphics program from a good company with excellent support.
